Biography

Court Carney is an Associate Professor of History at Stephen F. Austin State University where he teaches courses on African-American history and American cultural history. His first book, Cuttin’ Up: How Jazz Got America’s Ear (Kansas, 2009), examined the ways in which jazz music reflected/refracted the tensions that shaped American life in the early twentieth century. He is currently writing a book centered on race and the massacre at Fort Pillow. ​
