The Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra presents

The Sound of Books!

To cap off a wonderful day of books, the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra will present a free outdoor concert in front of the Louisiana State Capitol. From 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., Conductor David Torns and the symphony will present a sunset performance of “The Sound of Books,” a program of music selections from films that originated as books.

David TorrnsDavid Torns is the Assistant Conductor of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Louisiana Youth Orchestra. A native of San Diego, California, his musical studies began at the age of five on the violin. He attended the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University where he completed a degree in violin performance. He then completed graduate studies on violin and orchestral conducting at West Virginia University. Previous to his appointment in Baton Rouge, he served as the Assistant Conductor of the Symphony of the Mountains and Conductor of the Symphony of the Mountains Youth Orchestra in Kingsport, Tennessee. He has guest conducted the orchestras at both Vanderbilt University and West Virginia University. Recently he served as conductor in residence for the summer program at the North Carolina School for the Arts. Previous appointments have included Assistant Conductor of the Nashville Youth Repertory Orchestra and the Nashville Youth Symphony, Music Director of the WVU Community Arts Orchestra, and Interim Music Director of the Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra.
