Exhibit: The Fashion Art of Miki Pfeffer: Her years as illustrator, 1953 to 1971
Author Miki Pfeffer had two previous careers that led to her later research on women's lives for her books. Evidence of her first career is currently displayed in the State Library – she was a fashion illustrator in department store advertising in New Orleans (Krauss, Holmes, Maison Blanche, and specialty stores) from 1953 to 1971. Viewers will recognize ads from newspapers, including one featuring Mr. Bingle. Pfeffer's work with women during her career as a manufacturer's representative of women's business fashions also indirectly laid the groundwork for her books Southern Ladies and Suffragists: Julia Ward Howe and Women's Rights at the 1884 New Orleans World's Fair and A New Orleans Author in Mark Twain's Court: Letters from Grace King's New England Sojourns.
